A statement released by the traditional ruler of Oko in the state of Anambra, Igwe Laz Ekwueme, on behalf of his brother's family, confirms that Nigeria's Vice President Alex Ekwueme, who was taken to a UK hospital for pneumonia, passed away at the age of 85.
The statement revealed that Alex Ekwueme, who had been stabilized in a Nigerian hospital after fleeing to London on an ambulance on Sunday, had died in a London clinic around 10 pm Sunday;
"The Ekwueme family regrets announcing the peaceful death of their patriarch, former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON, on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at 10:00 pm in the London clinic, "it says in the statement.
