Mimiko’s former commissioner arrested in Owo

Femi Adekanmbi, a former commissioner for Culture and Tourism in the administration of immediate past Governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko has been arrested in Owo.

According to reports by PUNCH, Adekanmbi was arrested by security operatives a few hours to the annual thanksgiving he organised and the inauguration of a water fountain he constructed in the town.

“The arrest of the former commissioner almost caused crisis in the town as his political followers were accusing the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, for the arrest of their leader a few hours to the inauguration of the newly constructed water fountain,” a source told the newspaper.

Adekanmbi accused Governor Akeredolu of orchestrating his arrest while speaking with journalists at the office of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure.

“This is a clear case of political vendetta and an attempt to silence political opponents. This is not about political gathering or rally, but we only planned the annual thanksgiving which has been in existence for over 10 years.

“No arrest or intimidation can silence me and my followers. This will not affect my love for my people and the urge to bring development to the ancient town of Owo. I am ready to work hand in hand with any individual or organisation toward developing Owo town irrespective of the political beliefs or leaning,” the former commissioner said.

Adekanmbi, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was sworn in as a commissioner by Mimiko December 10, 2015 after he decamped from the All Progressives Congress (APC)
