Fully Funded Oxford-Allan and Nesta Ferguson African Graduate Scholarship, 2018


Oxford University seeks prospective graduate students to apply for the Oxford-Allan and Nesta Ferguson African Graduate Scholarship. One full scholarship is available for applicants who are ordinarily resident in Africa and who are applying to the full-time MSc Environmental Change and Management.
Deadline: January 2018. Selection is expected to take place by the end of May 2018.

Scholarship Worth: 
  • The scholarship covers course fees, college fees and a grant for living costs of at least £14,553.
  • Awards are made for the full duration of your fee liability for the agreed course.
About:
The scholarship is jointly funded by the University and the Allan & Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust. The Trust was set up in memory of two generations of the Ferguson family to promote their particular interests in education, international friendship and understanding, and the promotion of world peace and development.
Eligibility
  • All eligible applicants will be considered for this scholarship, regardless of which college (if any) you state as your preference on the graduate application form.
  • However, successful applicants will be transferred to Linacre College in order to take up the scholarship.
  • The eligibility criteria will be applied automatically, using the details you provide in the relevant sections of the graduate application form (for example, your country of ordinary residence and your previous education institutions), to determine whether you are eligible.
  • Selection is based on academic merit, unless specified otherwise.
  • Some of the scholarships are only tenable at specific colleges. Unless specified otherwise, you do not need to select that college as your preference on the graduate application form. All eligible applicants will be considered, regardless of which college (if any) you state as your preference. However, successful applicants will be transferred to the relevant college in order to take up the scholarship.
  • Applicants who hold deferred offers to start in 2018-19 are not eligible to be considered for these scholarships.

How to Apply
  • You will apply online via the University of Oxford Graduate Application Form. To apply you will need to pay a fee of £75 GBP, upload supporting documents and submit your application.
  • If you are a current Oxford graduate student applying for another eligible graduate course, please select ‘Readmission’ as your application type when you apply. You will find the code you need to access this application type in your student self-service account.You need to ensure that your application and all supporting documents, including references, required for your course are received by 12 noon (midday) UK time on the deadline date in order for it to be considered.
  • To be considered for Oxford scholarships, please apply by the relevant January deadline. They also strongly recommend you also apply by the January deadline if you need a student visa.
  • For January deadlines, you should ideally contact your referees and request your transcript in September and apply by December.
  • You should submit your application and all required documents well before the relevant deadline. You will only make your application fee payment when you submit, so it is particularly important to apply early to be sure that the payment is successful and that you are able to submit. The earlier you apply, the more time there is for us to help you with any questions or technical issues.
Applying to more than one course
  • You can submit multiple applications to different courses for 2017-18 study, but you can only apply to any particular course once in the same annual admissions cycle.
  • The only exception is applying to a DPhil more than once with a different research proposal, in which case you should contact the department to ask whether your first application was only assessed for the specific project or for the course as a whole before you re-apply.
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
  • Along with the application and the fee, all applicants will need to submit supporting documents by the deadline.
  • You should submit your documents as part of your application and not before (except paper documentation, which may be sent in advance via post).t have been sent to you personally, including internship references.
The following documents are compulsory for all applications:
  • three references (letters of recommendation)
  • official transcript(s) of previous university-level degrees
  • CV/résumé
  • statement of purpose and/or research proposal
You may also need to submit one or more of the following, depending on the course:
  • academic written work
  • portfolio (eg of artwork, performance recordings)
  • GRE results
  • mathematics admissions exercise
  • evidence of proficiency in a language essential to the course, eg Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)

All your documents must be:
  • in PDF, JPG or PNG format
  • no larger than 4MB (for upload to your application form)
  • in English (unless otherwise permitted by the department)

  • easily identifiable
